Telecom

Telecom is a systems used to electronically transmit messages over a distance. Telecommunication system needs a transmitter, a medium and possibly a channel imposed upon the medium and a receiver. The transmitter is a device that encodes the message into a signal. The transmission medium, by its physical nature, is likely to demodulate the signal on its path from the transmitter to the receiver. The receiver has a decoding mechanism as demodulator capable of recovering the message. In some cases, the final "receiver" is the human eye and/or ear. One of the roles of the telecommunications engineer is to analyze the physical properties of the line or transmission medium, and the statistical properties of the message in order to design the most effective encoding and decoding mechanisms. Telecommunication can be point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or broadcasting, which is a particular form of point-to-multipoint that goes only from the transmitter to the receivers. Types of telecommunication are:

  • Point-to-Point:

In point to point there is one sender and only one receiver. For instance as we talk on telephones. where first the connection is establish then the modulator converts the voice to electronic signals and demodulator at the other end transform it to voice form again so that receiver can understand.

  • Broadcasting:

Working of broadcast is same as that of point-to-point the only difference is that there is only one sender and unlimited receiver. For instance radio signals, the signals are transmitted from radio station and number of user listen them on their own devices.

Typical Applications of telecommunication are:
  • Conferencing System
  • Media Gateway
  • Radio Network Controller
  • SMS Offload using IP
  • Streaming Video/Media/Storage
  • Voice over IP
  • WAN Protocol Software
  • Media Gateway Modules
  • Mezzanine Cards
